Jn. 5:26 For the Father has given the Son the power to impart life, even as the Father imparts life. - When you and I received Jesus as our Lord and Savior, LIFE was imparted to us. You might say, "But I was alive before I received Christ!" You were alive, yes, but you did not have true LIFE. The life of God is eternal because He is eternal. Through Jesus, you and I were given the very LIFE of God. The Greek calls it "zoe" which means the "God kind of LIFE!" WOW! Stop and think about that for a moment. You and I are carrying within our spirits part of the Living, Eternal God.
