A Living Sacrifice

Heb. 13:15 Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. Why is praising God a sacrifice? The original meaning of the word "sacrifice" meant to kill or slaughter for a purpose. This act of praising God often means that we "kill" our pride. Often, we do it against the feelings of our flesh. We praise when we want to do everything but praise. We lift our voice in praise, not because of how we feel, but because of Who He is and what He's done for us. We lift our voice in praise because of the gift of life, the work of the cross, the power of the blood, the grace He has bestowed, and so much more. As you and I push past our feelings, and lift our voice to praise our King, the Holy Spirit will fill our mouth with new and living words of worship from our heart of worship.
